TZHS Students Attend Assembly on Growing Concern of Prescription Drug Abuse
On Tuesday, February 14, students at Tappan Zee High School took part in a special assembly and heard from DEA Flaherty, who brought a message of concern regarding the overuse and abuse of prescription drugs among adolescents and adults. His message was factual and personal, as he shared the dangers of these drugs, how they are manufactured, and how use of such can change a life. Showing that this issue is of concern right here in Rockland County, DEA Flaherty showed that we all need to be aware of these dangers and that we need to make good choices every day and to encourage others to also choose well. DEA Flaherty, along with other agents and local Orangetown Police Detective, Joe Sullivan, provided opportunity for students to ask questions and get honest, knowledgeable answers about this important issue. We encourage you to continue this conversation at home with your teen. Knowledge is the best defense.

EYES ON COTTAGE LANE!

Fourth Graders Enjoyed a Sweet Math Problem

I bought a box of candy for myself last week. However, by the time I got home I had eaten ¼ of the candies. As I was putting the groceries away, I ate ½ of what was left. There were 6 chocolates left in the box. How many chocolates were in the box to begin with? The correct answer: 16 candies. Over thirty students participated in the challenge by solving the problem, writing an explanation and creating a three-dimensional representation. Congratulations to Blair S., Maya A., and Erin C. They received Valentine prizes for the most accurate and creative representation along with a detailed explanation.

Click the play button on the right to watch this short video Valentine 2012.  After previewing the video stay to watch Cottage Lane's Three Words for February 2012 just below Valentine 2012.  ENJOY!
